    India now Nigeria’s leading trade partner - Envoy

    India has emerged as the largest trading partner of Nigeria globally with bilateral trade of US$9.4 billion in 2017, the country’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Shri Reddy has said.
    The envoy, who described the bilateral relations between both countries as natural, also said Nigeria is now the largest trading partner of India in Africa.
    Reddy, who stated this at the 70th Indian National Day reception in Abuja, said the country’s diplomatic engagements with Nigeria, which started 60 years ago, has transformed into a strategic partnership.
    According to Reddy, India is also emerging as Nigeria’s development partner, with emphasis on knowledge and experience sharing with a view to improve capacity building in diverse areas.
    He said India offers Nigerians about 500 training programmes annually under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation as well as India-Africa Forum Summit decisions.
    Ambassador Olushola Iginla, Director Regions at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, commended India’s political leadership for its consistence in sustaining relations with Nigeria at all levels.
