Bauchi women block police station over arrest of Christian youth

Hundreds of Christian women in Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis have staged a protest, during which they blocked the police division in the area.

The protesting women told DAILY POST that their action was to demand the unconditional release of Christians arrested by the police after a religious crisis that erupted in the area last night.

Leader of the aggrieved women, Ladi Joshua, who spoke to journalists, accused the police of carrying out indiscriminate arrest of innocent Christian youths from their houses, instead of hunting the Muslim youths who allegedly attacked people.

We are here to protest and demand the unconditional release of our Christian youths who were arrested by the police even when the Muslim youths have not been confronted despite terrorising our people,” she said.

The women, with leaves tied on their waist, blamed the police for not hunting the attackers, wondering why Christian youths should be made to pay for offences they did not commit.

“Honestly, police in Nigeria now seems to connive with criminals to implement the script of their masters just to divert public attention from Muslim attack on Christian community,” the women leader lamented.
